Rolling With The Bulls in Shreveport at Columbia Park
Volunteer matadors are ready to roll with bully breed dogs at Columbia Park in Shreveport at the second annual “Rolling with the Bulls” – a fun twist on Pamplona’s famous Running of the Bulls. The family-friendly event is sponsored by Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation and Caddo Parish Animal Services, along with numerous organizations that want to bring attention to naturally-protective bully breed dogs that are often overlooked for adoption, as well as spay and neuter programs available in the area.
Rolling with the Bulls to raise awareness of bully breed dogs
Members of the Shreveport-Bossier’s own roller derby team, the Twin City Rollers, will play the part of “bulls” on skates at this fun event, scheduled for Saturday, August 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The pro skaters will be dressed in red and ready to charge!
Anyone and everyone are welcome to join in! For those who are interested in participating as a “matador,” the only rule is that you wear all white clothing and a red handkerchief, scarf or other crimson accessory – the traditional garb of bull runners at the San Fermin Festival.
While the second annual “Rolling with the Bulls” is sure to be entertaining and silly, attendees will also have access to resources about pet education. Bully breed canines can make wonderful pets, and are renowned for their intelligence, alertness and loyalty. Besides bull mastiffs and pit bull terriers, there are tons of other canines that fall into this category including:
- Boston terriers
- Boxers
- American and French bulldogs
- Great Danes
- Pugs
- Rottweilers
- Italian Cane Corsos
- American Staffordshire Terriers
- English Mastiff
When provided love and proper training, bully breed dogs can make excellent companion animals for people of all ages.
Prizes for best-dressed bull and matador
This child-friendly event is free to the public and has plenty of activities to keep little ones amused. In addition to a giant slip-n-slide, there will be water misters and a handful of adoptable dogs in the parish.
Don’t miss out on the “Bull & Matador Run/Roll” at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.! The best-dressed matador and best-dressed bull will receive a voucher for a free spay and neuter from the local animal rescue organization.
